Utility Discounters
About Florida utilities sales and use tax

In an effort to help the economy and bring large business into their state, the Florida Department of Revenue passed a law that would allow manufacturers, fabricators and processors state sales tax exemptions on their utilities depending on the amount of consumption. This applies to both electricity and natural gas.

In Florida, if you spend over 50% but under 75% of your electricity and/or natural gas in the process of making a physical or chemical change to tangible personal property intended for sale, you can apply for a 50% exemption from the state sales tax. You may also receive a refund of 50% of the past taxes that you paid for as far back as 3 years. Some factors may prevent a refund of 3 full years.

Florida will give 100% exemptions from the state sales tax to those manufacturers, fabricators and processors using over 75% of their electricity and/or natural gas in the process of making a physical or chemical change to tangible personal property intended for sale. You may also receive a refund of 100% of the past taxes that you paid for up to 36 months.

Utility Discounters will perform a balanced utility study in order to show the state the exact amount of exemptable use. This will allow us to file for tax exemption status on your utilities.

Do I qualify for just a 50% exemption and refund or the full 100% exemption and refund?
